WHAT IS SOCIOLOGY?

WHAT IS SOCIOLOGY?

Before fully entering the definition of Sociology what we have to do is determine the etymology of this term. In particular, their backgrounds are in latin, and more exactly in the union of the words socĭus, which would translate as "partner or individual", and logia that has several meanings including "study". Therefore, on the basis of this we could make a literal translation that sociology is the study of the partner or individual.
Sociology is a science dedicated to the study of social groups (whole of individuals who live clustered in various types of associations). This Science examines the internal forms of organization, relationships that subjects maintain among themselves and with the system, and the degree of cohesion in the framework of the social structure.

For example: "my son wants to study sociology at the end of high school", "Last night I saw on television a very interesting debate on sociology", "the President can be a great Economist, but little known of sociology".

It could be said that sociology exists since long before that it will be developed as science or that its object of study shall be defined. In the 5th century BC, Herodotus was dedicated to perform complete descriptions of the Customs and rituals of various peoples. Ibn Khaldun (1332-1406), for its part, was who proclaimed the notion of Ilm Iytima (of society or of social science).

Auguste Comte, for its part, was commissioned to give shape to the concept of sociology, in 1838 when presented the course of positive philosophy. Sociology was consolidated as an autonomous Science recently in the middle of the 19th century. Because Advanced 20th century, began to differentiate different schools and mainstream.

In this regard it is interesting to make a small bracket to establish sociology throughout history has not left indifferent. Hence great thinkers of all time as the German Max Weber defined it it as the science that is in charge of a mission very concrete.

For him that discipline is making face social action to thus be able to undertake explanation causally, from a knowledge called interpretive approach, both its development and its effects.
